The Dr and Nurses are fantastic, but the reception staff make it so difficult to get what you need- they can be at times rude and it's hit and miss on who you get to speak to who might be helpful. Its also very difficult to get an appointment, often told that the next available appointment is X date but they are unable to book due to the limitations on the system and that you have to call back. Overall the experience I've had has been OK, but I have yet to be seriously ill or in need of emergency attention, I would be concerned about how this would be handled by reception staff if this were the case.

I'm not happy with the reception team who have on a few occasions picked up and put down the phone in order to avoid patient calls. It took 30 minutes for me to make an appointment owing to a large telephone queue preceding the receptionists deliberately dropping my call. I don't like going to the doctors and I don't do it unless I have a serious problem. This is incredibly unprofessional. Sort it out!

I had a blocked up ear last week which was distressing. I was able to see a doctor that morning and an appointment was made with a nurse for my ear to be treated a couple of days later. Unfortunately, it emerged later that day that the Nurse was not available as she was unwell and I thought I would have to wait much longer to be treated. However, Reception rang a few hours later to say that there had been a Nurse appointment cancellation and that I could therefore be treated the following day - which I was successfully. Thanks for the considerate administration and treatment - and a reminder to other patients to cancel any unnecessary appointments since they can be used to treat another person who is unwell!

One improvement could be a "can do" attitude front of house. Simply always saying "there's nothing I can do" when required action could take mere seconds and avoid unhappy patients. Maybe this could be led by the manager whom always speaks very loudly about patient issues in the waiting room and can be very abrupt, having had a bad experience several times with said person myself making again patients feel very unhappy and belittled. Has the potential to be a great practice if workers are more willing to help. My GP Dr Alexander I never have an issue with, his attentitive and always willing to help and listen.

Up to now, touch wood I have always been able to book an appointment with the doctor online to suit, however in fairness I have not had to book via the receptionist for the doctor only the nurse, and they have always been fine and accommodating. I have heard it's not easy to get an early appointment via the phone for the doctor, but if I was in that position I would ask to speak to a doctor and discuss my problem and concern and leave it up to the doctor to decide when to fit me in. I am really pleased with the care I'm given by my doctor, and as I have Asthma I visit the nurse once a year and she is always very good. On a negative point, I have used the toilet there 3 times in total over the past year or so and each time the loo papers either low or there is none and the dryers not worked, so these things need to be checked regularly. It would be nice to see a cheery face behind the reception desk too, not always possible I know, but it does help and puts patients at ease. Having said all that I am a very happy patient, so thanks to all at Ifield surgery.
